In this article, we’ll focus on residential gutters, providing a few essential tips on how to maintain them.

How to Maintain Residential Gutters

  • Cleaning – The most important thing you will need to do to maintain your residential gutters is to clean them regularly. Over time, leaves, twigs, and other debris will collect in your gutters, and this will cause the downspouts to become clogged if you don’t clean out the debris in time. Clogged gutters are not effective at protecting your home from water damage, so we encourage you to clean your gutters (or have them cleaned by professionals like us) at least twice a year.
  • Inspection – In addition to cleaning your residential gutters, you should also inspect them regularly for signs of damage. Once a month, walk around your home and look at the gutters. Are they rusty in any places? Do the gutters seem to be sagging anywhere? Are there any points where the gutters are pulling away from the roof? If you spot any of these issues, give us a call right away to get our repair team on the job.
  • Gutter Guards – A third thing you can do to maintain your residential gutters and improve their performance is to install gutter guards. These are mesh coverings that go over the gutter troughs to prevent debris from getting in.
